Outsource the work, not the fun!

The school holidays are well and truly in full swing and if you’re anything like me, the mere thought of them have filled you with equal amounts of excitement and dread for months. Excitement because you get a break from the mundaneness of regimented bedtimes, packed lunches and uniform washing and the very best bit; you get to spend some real quality time with your mini me’s.

The dread is perhaps something many of you can relate to; how on earth are you supposed to carry on working when the children are at home for 6 weeks at least? Spend too much time off work and you risk impacting your workload or business; too little and you miss out on amazingly wonderful, chicken-soup-for-the-soul moments with your little people that you can never get back. You feel guilty whatever you decide, so how do you win?

My daughters school holiday is even longer – just shy of 8 weeks holiday this year (eek!), and yet I still need to find the time to run my business; it’s a miracle the self employed survive the summer! I’m very lucky, I have a skilled network of highly trained and experienced child care providers (also know as grandparents) to call upon so I may continue my work with very little impact to my business or clients. It’s important to me that our level of service is not compromised and my business functions seamlessly whether I am in the office or not, and whilst I work hard to ensure that this is the case it can of course still be a challenge.
